ST. JOSAPHAT CHOIR NAMED ONE OF THE BEST IN N.E. OHIO FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

Our St. Josaphat Cathedral Choir has once again been named one of the top 6 church choirs in Northeast Ohio in a contest sponsored by Cleveland’s classical music radio station, WCLV-FM. The choir will take part in a final competition on Friday, May 21, at the Cathedral of St. John in downtown Cleveland. Their 20 minute program will be broadcast live by WCLV-FM, along with musical selections by the other finalists. All in the Ukrainian community are invited to support our Cathedral Choir by attending the final competition of the “Jubilation Choral Festival” which begins at 8 p.m. on Friday evening, May 21 at the Cathedral of St. John downtown. Those who cannot attend can hear our choir perform live on WCLV, 104.9 FM. Judges include the former director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the former director of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. The St. Josaphat Cathedral Choir was founded in 1962 by Sir Eugene Sadowsky, who at the age of 97 continues to cantor at our Ukrainian language liturgies. Following Sir Eugene’s retirement in 1992, Anna Keller became Choir Director and has led our singers since then. Choir members are all volunteers who join without auditions. Some have been singing God’s praises with us for more than 30 years! Please come downtown to the Cathedral of St. John in Cleveland to support our choir on Friday, May 21, at 8 p.m.

Christopher Zugger Official Statement of Press Office of Mukachevo Eparchy (computer translated) Saturday, April 24, 2010, in the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Cathedral in Uzhhorod, the solemn episcopal enthronement of Bishop of Milan at the eparchial cathedral of the Mukachevo eparchy took place. At the beginning, His Eminence Archbishop John Yurkovych, Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine, in the presence of His Eminence Archbishop Cyril Vasil, Secretary of the Congregation for Eastern Churches with the Vatican, publicly read the Papal bull (official letter) of appointment of the new ruling bishop of Mukachevo and solemnly presented him with the bishop's staff. The Nuncio enthroned Bishop Milan's ancient episcopal throne, established more than 200 years ago in the days of Bishop Andrew Bachynsky. After this the Mukachevo eparchial clergy, religious and laity have shown their respect and recognize their homage to the new ruling bishop. After the enthronement ceremony there was a Hierarhical Divine Liturgy with the participation of 22 bishops of the Universal Catholic Church and almost all the clergy from the Mukachevo eparchy. This Liturgy publicly proclaims the right of governance of the Bishop, who now runs the eparchy not only on behalf of the Apostolic See, as an administrator, and on his own behalf now as the full-ruling Bishop-Ordinary of the Mukachevo eparchy. During the Liturgy, the sermon delivered by His Eminence, Archbishop John Yurkovych in which he praised the fruitful pastoral ministry of Bishop Milan and noted the great role of the eparchial bishop in the local church. After the Liturgy Bishop Milan, on behalf of Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for Oriental Churches, welcomed the Archbishop from Rome Cyril Vasil. Mieczysław Mokshytskyy, the Archbishop Metropolitan of L’viv for the Latin Rite. Bishop Milan welcomed on behalf of the Bishops, the clergy and faithful of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine; also Bishop Bohdan Dzyurah from Kyiv welcomed the new Eparch behalf of His Beatitude Cardinal Lubomir Husar, major archbishop of Kiev-Galician, and all of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. On behalf of the Reformed Church of Transcarpathia Bishop Milan welcomed Bishop Sandor Sander-Fabian. On behalf of the Transcarpathian Oblast Council and ODA commander he welcomed Mr. John Kachur, Deputy Head of State Administration. His commander also welcomed representatives of religious, youth and lay people of all ages. The same day the opening of the memorial of Bishop Andrew Bachynsky Square took place, which is named in his honor and dedicated at the lower level of the episcopal residence.
